OSHO SANNYASIN 'WHOSOEVER' OF OSHO DHYAN LEELA FOUNDATION, KARNATAKA, INDIA
FOUND GREATNESS IN PLAYING CARDS IN A ROOM IN OSHO COMMUNE, PUNE WHILE OSHO HAD BEEN DISCOURSING

"And Chaitannya Kirti also cannot deny it, because we four persons – myself, Swami Chaitannya Kirti, Swami Anand Sant, Swami Vedant Bharti, used to play cards sitting in the room of Chaitannya Kirti in the Commune(Pune) while Osho had been discoursing." …………..'Whosoever'

These are the words of Swami Chaitannya Bharti, an Osho Sannyasin who has now changed his name and called 'Whosoever' by his followers. By saying so he has given an example in support of his claim that Osho never insisted that His sannyasins should meditate or participate in Osho White-robe Evening Meditation regularly. Such views from a long-time Osho sannyasin are simply ridiculous and shameful. How he has forgotten the meaning and purpose of being initiated by Oho into sannyas? Sannyas is one's commitment to the existence witnessed by an enlightened master to meditate and not to waste the time in mundane things because time is not money, time is life. Says Osho:-

"You have become a sannyasin. Now it is a responsibility on you to fulfill the commitment of sannyas – and that is meditation. Without meditation, there is no sannyas. It is only your pure consciousness rising upwards – slowly, slowly moving beyond the gravitation of lower things – that will make you a sannyasin."

"I can define sannyas as a flying experience to the stars … Don't waste your time, because time is not money, time is life."………………………… (OSHO)

(The Great Pilgrimage from Here to Here)

Now, what can be said about Osho sannyasins who preferred to play cards while their master has been giving discourse nearby in the commune. And because nobody prevented them for doing so, they thought it as Osho's consent. But what has happened to your responsibility to fulfill the commitment of sannyas – and that is meditation. Rather than feeling shameful, they made it a great event – their freedom to do anything. Then why they took sannyas? Everyone is engaged in the mundane in this world; they should have remained part of it doing what they like. It is seeing such sannyasins and their acts that Osho used to say that people who are near to Him for long tend to take Him for granted and thus miss Him. Mr. Whosoever's or Swami Chaitannya Bharti's decision to play cards while a rare enlightened master had been speaking to thousands of sannyasins nearby, shows that he had been missing the opportunity. Rather feeling shameful for such an act he found greatness in it. What type of disciple he has been? But this is not something new; this has happened with many others who thought that being near to Osho or being involved in His work only, will be sufficient to enlighten them. In fact they missed a rare opportunity. Listen what Osho says about this situation:-

MANY PEOPLE WHO LIVED WITH OSHO FOR LONG TIME TOOK HIM FOR GRANTED AND THUS MISSED HIM

"It is not a question of time – that one has to live with me for years and only then will he be able to feel that there is no I and there is no thou. It is a question of sensitivity, not of time – of a clear perception, not of living many, many years with me."

"There are people who have lived with me for years. In fact, the more they have lived with me, the more they have forgotten me completely; they have started taking me for granted. They will wake up only when I disappear from this physical body. Then they will feel a sudden shock – twenty years we have been together, what happened?"

( Take It Easy)

Whosoever’ had cited this incident of playing cards while Osho had been delivering sermons, in support of his claim that Osho never said that everyone should participate in meditation and must participate in ‘Osho White Robe Brotherhood Meetings.’ See what he says in his book Tum Ek Gorkhdhanda Ho” page 81:-

Has Osho said even this that it is compulsory to participate in ‘Osho White Robe Brotherhood Meeting’ and he who will not participate in it will not be provided shelter and food in the Commune; the commune will not support him..?

No, He(Osho) has never said this; you(The Inner Circle) are saying this. Now people are participating in White Robe Brotherhood only so that they may not lose the support of the Commune.

Osho has never said, never even indicated as to why we do not come to His discourses – though He knew where we were and what we were doing.”

OSHO HAS BEEN GIVING HIS GUIDANCE ABOUT MANY THINGS TO HIS SECRETARIES ABOUT WHICH 'WHOSOEVER' KNEW NOTHING

Mr. Whosoever has been has been making much hue and cry about the guidance Osho had been giving to His secretaries about many things. He challenged to show him where such guidance is. In fact he wanted the evidence in this regard. Here we want to make it clear that the guidance provided by Osho have been published in Osho Times International at different times for the information of the people. It is 'Whosoever's' lapse that he could not notice the same. It appears from what Mr. 'Whosoever' has said above that he had no information about what has been happening in the Pune Commune. He must have been engaged in conducting the meditation camps at different places in India or passing his time playing cards with Swami Chaitannya Kirti in his room in the Commune. Here we want to supply following information for the knowledge of 'Whosoever' and those who are following him and believe in what he has said. Because what he has said is white lie.

Two types of messages had been coming from Osho during His lifetimes:

First type of messages Osho had been giving in His public discourses which were relating to His vision for the world in general and for His disciples/friends in particular.

Second types of messages had been coming from Osho through His various secretaries. These messages included instructions about work of spreading His message, regarding meditation techniques and about functioning of Pune Commune and many more.

The second types of messages were communicated to the sannyasins and general public by His secretaries in different ways in case they relate to Osho's sannyasins and general public. Regarding functioning of 'Osho White Robe Brotherhood Meetings' also Osho has given messages or instructions time to time. Here we want to mention one occasion when Osho gave instructions about "Osho White Robe Brotherhood Meeting" which was communicated to Osho Sannyasins through OSHO TIMES International Vol.4 issue No. 18 at page 4 on 16th September 1991. In The context of what Whosoever has said above we want to inform that he was telling lies. See what Osho had said to Neelam regarding participation in Osho White Robe Brotherhood Meeting:-

'The people who are not attending – talk to them. Close the front gate, tell the guards to go around to each department to see that no work is happening during evening darshans. Tell the guards to write the names and then talk with those people, make them understand."

When in one evening Neelam told Osho, "These people are very beautiful, they are old sannyasins, they are very much connected with you. Just in the evenings they would like to be in their rooms alone to meditate there, or to cook or eat alone, and to meditate alone." And He will say, "No, no, no you talk with them. You make them understand that this is a commune. Don't turn this commune into an ordinary organization where you just come for work. No, no, this is my commune where you all eat together, cook together, work together and then in the evenings you meditate together, you celebrate together – no to miss it."

We are giving the full version of the meeting in which Osho's sannyasins were reminded about the importance of Osho White Robe Brotherhood Meeting:-

REMIND MY PEOPLE, THEY WILL UNDERSTAND"

On Friday, August, 9, at 6.30pm there was a community meeting in Gautama the Buddha Auditorium. Three members of Inner Circle, Swami Anand Jayesh, Swami Devageet and Ma Yoga Neelam shared their understanding of Osho's guidance about the evening meetings of the White Robe Brotherhood. The following is a transcript of the meeting:-

JAYESH: It's really too bad so many of you come! (laughter)…There has been a lot of gossip in the last two days as to why this meeting was called, so I would like to announce that I am very nervous – and Amrito's enlightened! (laughter). In the last months before Osho left the body, He spoke very often about His commune, about His Buddhafield. He spoke of all the new people who would be coming to Him and His work and His vision. And that it was up to all of us to help new people to understand what the essence of this Buddhafield is. Also He said that it is very easy for all of us to forget, to take this Buddhafield, for granted. That we should meet periodically and remind each other lest we forget.

So many times He said: "Remind my people, they will understand."Also on one occasion He said that in the history of mankind, those people who reminded people very often got murdered. So if you have wondered why we have waited 19 months to do this…!(laughter). If anyone here is feeling that kind of mind, though, I want you to know that I have checked with both Devageet and Neelam and they are both ready! (laughter)

The essence of what I heard Osho speak of His Buddhafield, His Commune, was that His presence in the body was so strong that He could lift all of us up to a very high level, even against the pull of gravity. When He spoke of His not being in the body He said that “Now it is up to my people. My people are ready; it’s their responsibility.” I understood Osho to say that through our meditation together, our contribution together, that not only could we maintain the Buddhafield energy but even lift it. Again, He said, “It is up to my people.” It is up to us.

Osho spoke of His Buddhafield as being a unique environment of the entire planet. He spoke of this energy field as a field that provokes consciousness. I understood Him to say that in the mystery of existence, something unknowable…that if we were responsible, and we did maintain and lift this Buddhafield energy, that in the mystery it acts as a magnet, and all of those people who are supposed to come will be here. I heard Osho also to speak of our meditation as the fuel of the new man, the fuel of His vision and the fuel of His dream.

In discourse in, The Buddha: The Emptiness of the Heart, Osho says, "Every night these few moments are the most valuable moments in your life. And every evening when so many living Buddhas gather here, this place becomes the most important in the whole world, the spiritual capital of the world, because nowhere are so many people digging so deep that they can find the very life source, the eternity, the deathlessness."

DEVAGEET: I used to look after Osho's teeth, and invariably even when He was in pain, even when His body was very badly shaken from the poisoning, His first question would be," How was the meeting to night Geet?" And He would sometimes talk about the quality of the silence in here, how it was getting deeper and how proud He was of His people. And on one particular occasion He said, "The silence was so beautiful tonight, so deep I could almost touch it.

And it is about this silence, this unique contribution that happens in the White Robe Brotherhood that we are standing up here tonight – just to remind us.

There are many people here who are new, who may not have been here in those last few months when Osho's body was fading and He was hanging onto it virtually giving every tiny drop of His energy into this hall here, to create a place unique on the surface of this planet where the silence of the buddha can be experienced. And that is here.

I would like now just to read a few things in His words rather than my own. One night in January, He said, “The silence has reached such a deep level that no matter how many new people come in, they would not disturb it, they will immediately rise to the same level.”At the same time He was putting tremendous emphasis on the fact that it was essential that everybody attended every night. He said that “This meeting each night is the highest peak of whole days working, meditating or doing groups in the commune. That which cannot be said has to be experienced. This is a great experience of getting into the inner space. Something is experienced in this gathering which no one has been able to define.”

Even two days before He left the physical body – taking His teeth with Him, I’m sorry to say – He gave us very clear instructions about this particular meeting: We will all be here with our eyes open as He namastes us and when He leaves the podium we close our eyes and the first part of the music will start and the musicians will continue the music meditation. Without exception, He said: Everybody who comes must stay to the end. Amrito His doctor, Anando His secretary and Avesh His driver were told to return to their seats as soon as they had finished their work – and their work was taking Osho back to His room.

About the video He said, "It does not matter if you have seen it before. There are many layers, and each time you will find a new layer." And He said, "Emphasize the point that now your meditation is going to go deeper than ever."

One particular quote, I think sums it all up. He is talking to us just before the meditation at the end of the Zen discourses. It is just after a period when He has been too ill to come out for discourses, and He says,"I was in your tears, in your nonsense utterances. I was absolutely present here with you, and those who are present know it perfectly. I was absent only for those who themselves are absent. At least today, don't go anywhere."

NEELAM: I would also like to share. I must admit that maybe it was my shyness or resistance to talk with people, because so many times He will tell me, "The people who are not attending – talk to them." He saw my resistance and shyness and sometimes He will go into details, practical details like: "Close the front gate, tell the guards to go around to each department to see that no work is happening during evening darshans. Tell the guards to write the names and then talk with those people, make them understand. Tell them how beautiful, how this time of the day is so special. How this time of the day, when day and night are meeting, this evening time…this sandhya time, this prayer time when the whole existence is resting, the trees are welcoming, the birds who are coming back home, and you all are resting also, you are all coming under one roof to meditate together, to enjoy your togetherness, to celebrate it. Just to make these people understand how significant it is not to miss this. In the whole day some of you are doing individual meditations, some of you are participating in the work that is happening here. This is the only time of the day when you all come together under one roof to meditate together—not to miss this."

And He will ask me, have I talked with them, and sometimes I will tell Him: "Osho, these people are very beautiful, they are old sannyasins, they are very much connected with You. Just in the evenings they would like to be in their rooms alone to meditate there, or to cook or eat alone, or to meditate alone." And He will say, "No, no, no, you talk with them. You make them understand that this is a commune. Don't turn this commune into an ordinary organization where you just come for work. In the ordinary organization in the outside world you come to work and then you go back home and lead your private life. No, no this is my commune. This is commune for all of you, where you all eat together, cook together, work together and then in the evenings you meditate together, you celebrate together – not to miss it."
So let us enjoy. Let us meditate together. Let's dance together!

This all above was announced on 8th August, 1991 – at the time when there were no difference whatsoever among Osho sannyasins who were involved in His work in the Pune Commune or elsewhere. Therefore there should arise no doubt among the minds of the sannyasins like 'Whosoever/Swami Chaitannya Bharti about what was announced in the above meeting by the members of the Inner Circle. Moreover, what was declared seems to be the unanimous decision of all the Inner Circle members and was also welcomed by the people who were present in the meeting. Therefore, there should be no reason that anybody may misquote Osho for his vested interests.

As regards 'Whosoever' how he could predict about an enlightened master like Osho about what He will say or will not say or could not say or had not said. Moreover it cannot be said that he did not know anything about the above meeting because he himself claimed to be very intimate to Osho being an old disciple and also must have been reading Osho Times. Therefore, whatever he has said in the above book is malafied and false. It is strange how a man of meditation can spread lies about the intentions of his spiritual master.

Mr. 'Whosoever' has also pointed out that Osho had never said or even indicated as to why some sannyasins do not attend His discourse. This is also a lie. We noticed the instructions of Osho to His disciples regarding attendance of His discourses. The instructions were disclosed by Neelam in an interview given to Osho Times International probably in January, 1992:

"From the moment Osho returned to Poona in January, 1987, He set about creating the meditative energy field that He would leave behind. Realizing that He had been poisoned, and that time was running out, Osho set in motion a series of events that established Osho Commune International as the heart of His global Buddhafield."

Two of Osho's secretaries, Ma Yoga Neelam and Ma Deva Anando, recall the events of those days. Here we are giving only that part which is relevant to the question of attending Osho's discourses at that time:

NEELAM: Also He was continuously emphasizing the importance of everyone coming to the discourse in Buddha Hall. Sometimes He will see that a person is not there, and He will ask, "Where is that person? Today I did not see him…." And then I will check it out, and, if I tell Osho that "Oh that person was working in his office," Osho will say "No. There should be no work at all anywhere in the Commune during discourse." And He would ask me to check all the offices and if the people were working, I should talk with them and make them understand that the evening gatherings in Buddha Hall are the most important part of the day, and that everyone should be there.

In view of 'Whosoever's' above version that Osho never insisted that everyone should come to His discourses, is wrong. He seems to be totally ignorant about the happenings of Osho Commune at that time. His act to engage himself in playing cards while his master Osho had been giving discourse nearby is simply ridiculous and shameful. Such behavior cannot be accepted from a real Osho sannyasin more so when he is an old sannyasin, as he calls himself.

What we have written above makes it amply clear that Mr. 'Whosoever' had been spreading lies by saying that Osho never gave any guidance about attendance of Osho White Robe Brotherhood Meetings and discourses; that He never gave instructions that everyone should attend the same; that such instructions were given by the members of Inner Circle with their vested interests.

"The man who can tell lie so easily cannot be a man of meditation"…….Osho

It is for the information of Mr. 'Whosoever', though he thinks himself very knowledgeable, that an enlightened master is a rare phenomenon in this world. It takes thousands of years when there arises a possibility that existence gives birth to such a person. To miss the presence of such person or to miss sitting near him and listen to him and walk on the path he shows, is simply stupid. Further, an enlightened master shows the path and never compels anybody to follow it; rather he leaves on the person to follow it or not. If the disciple is intelligent and trusts his master he will certainly follow the same; but if the disciple is un-intelligent and stupid he will prefer to play cards rather to go on the path. It depends on the intensity of longing for truth which differs from person to person. An enlightened man like Osho never interferes in others life. If in spite of his eyes he wants to fall in the ditch, he will not prevent.

"People are in a strange situation; they want to ride on many boats. They are creating their life in such a way that it will be a disaster. If you are growing well…and he writes that his meditation is going well… At this fragile moment, going to somebody is dangerous. But if I say, "Don't go," I interfere. And I would not like to interfere, even if you are going wrong.".(The Invitation # 12)

THE EGO FEEDS ON HIERARCHY HIGHER IN MEDITATION OR SENIOR IN SANNYAS ARE ALL PROPS OF THE EGO.

In the book we have referred above i.e. 'Tum Ek Gorkhdhandha Ho' (Osho and Inner Circle) Mr. 'Whosoever' has made another statement which is as under:

"Swami Chaitannya Kirti, who is the editor of Osho Times, says, "Chaitannya Bharti wants to break the commune; he says, "We have raised it by working for even twenty hours a day. You have worked for twenty hours, have Chaitannya Bharti not worked? Am I not included in "we"? I am senior to you."

Whether he has worked for raising the commune more or not, cannot be said. But 'Whosoever's claim that he was senior to Swami Chaitannya Kirti is worth considering. This thought in his mind seems to have put him in the trap of gurudom. At many places also he has claimed emphatically that he was Osho sannyasin of the first batch and that he was with Osho since 1969. To prove his seniority he has also printed his photo with Osho pertaining to those old days, in the opening pages of his above book. Here we are reproducing Osho's reply to such claims by his sannyasins. But before that we want to ask Mr. 'Whosoever': When you were so old and senior and most intimate to Osho, why Osho did not chose you one of his secretaries? You seem to be not in the scene in Pune Commune-II. Why you were not near Osho the day He left His body. Why you were not called by Osho to Him before leaving the body, instead he preferred those sannyasins who were junior to you (as you call them)? Perhaps you don't know that Osho was betrayed even by some of those sannyasins who were with him since long, longer time than you were with Him. Your above statement also shows your jealousy. Here is Osho's reply to your claim of seniority:-

24th July, 1985

Q: BELOVED BHAGWAN, THE MIND IS AN EXPLOITER OF EVERY SITUATION. EVEN THE MOST BEAUTIFUL SITUATION OF BEING AROUND YOU IS EXPLOITED IN TERMS OF HIGHER AND LOWER, SPECIAL AND NON-SPECIAL, MORE MEDITATIVE AND LESS MEDITATIVE, CLOSER AND NOT CLOSE. HOW CAN AVOID THESE EXPLOITATIONS?

A: "There is not much difficulty in it. Simply drop the whole idea. I am teaching you every day that there is nothing higher, nothing lower. It is simply man's ego creating if not money, if not politics, then meditation. The ego can exploit any situation, but it will play the same game. One is higher in meditation; the other is lower in meditation. One is an older sannyasin, senior -- as if it is a government bureaucracy -- and the other one is a new fellow. You can tolerate him, but he is not to be considered much, not to be taken seriously. It is the same ego, you just have to watch. It is the same ego. Whenever it creates any comparison and brings the qualities of higher and lower and judgments, immediately cut its head, then and there. Take a deep breath and drop it. Exhale it! And it is only a question of a few days and the wrong habit disappears. It is only a wrong habit, nothing to be worried about, a hangover from the old society where everything is compared; everything is put in a certain hierarchic system. You have come from the old society with much junk from the old society within you. Be alert and go on cleansing yourself of the old, of the past, of all you have brought with you. Become emptier, become cleaner. And it feels so beautiful. It feels so ecstatic that I can only be silent about it. I cannot say anything about it."

Whosoever' in above book has spread lies that there was no guidance of Osho that Osho Meditation Camps should not be that of more than three days.

At page 87 of above book by Mr. 'Whosoever', he says:
"Ma Yoga Neelam has given a statement which has been published in Osho Times; later on to Swami Suraj Parkash of Bombay, to Krishan Arun of Delhi and to Prashant Yogi of Patna, letters were sent informing them that no information about the Meditation Camps exceeding three days will be published in Osho Times. Now latest issue of Osho Times has come in which there is information of five days meditation camp being held at Madhopur."

"Among them (the Inner Circle members) there is a Chancellor of Osho Multiversity; he is double Ph.D; he delivers lectures in various institutions on Meditation – and he himself has never meditated! They go on giving messages to the world to meditate – and here people want to meditate continuously for ten days and you people say that you will not publish its information in Osho Times. Is Osho Times their inherited property?"

Mr. 'Whosoever' seems to have very much irritated by the advice of Inner Circle that the Meditation Camps should not be of more than three days. This advice seems to have been given keeping in view the guidance of Osho that his meditations and meditation programmes should not be made complicated and hectic to avoid the sense of hurry in the minds of participants and not to put unreasonable stress on their consciousness. This all should happen in a relaxed state of mind The Meditation camps should be arranged in such a way that maximum of people could participate with ease. Moreover, as we understand, the Meditation camps are to introduce to the participants Meditation techniques of Osho and His vision; just to teach the techniques and give them a taste of relaxation of the mind. So far as the meditation practice is concerned, the same is a lifelong regular and sincere process. Moreover, as is the case five to six Osho Meditation techniques are scheduled, most of these are active techniques which put un-necessary pressure on the body which is tiring. To continue all these active meditations for long is not advisable. Furthermore, these techniques are not meditation; the process of meditation is total relaxation and witnessing, which can be practiced as long as one can. The meditation techniques which "Whosoever' uses in his 40 days meditation camps are also offered in Pune, but these all are not compulsory and each participant can chose which of these suits him most. That is why, it appears to us, that camps of three days were thought most suitable and convenient to most of the people.

Before Osho left for America, there used to be ten days meditation camps in Osho Commune, Pune from 11th to 20th of every month. In Pune-II the system of meditation camps was again started in July, 1989 when first meditation camp was held in the commune from 7th to 9th of July. This camp was conducted by Ma Zareen (see Rajneesh Times International Vol. 2 Issue No. 15 Page 4. Since then to date Osho Meditation camps are held for three days. The same period of three days was adopted in Pune commune as well as elsewhere in camps in India. This cannot be without the guidance of Osho because He was very much in body at that time. Due to bodily weakness Osho stopped giving discourses but has been giving regular guidance through His secretaries. Now, if 'Whosoever' is not ready to accept three days meditation camp, it is his lack of understanding. His insistence is just to go against what the members of Inner Circle are doing. It is ego problem otherwise there should have been no problem to go by the guidance of the Inner Circle and start arranging three days meditation camps replacing ten days camps with which he seems to have been obsessed. But in that way there was not possible for him to get distinction. As a reaction and to get specialty and attract followers he started to arrange 40 days meditation camps.

Why this lust for distinction?

"Those who just stand at the back, unassuming, not trying in any way to be felt by others, by me, not trying in any way to be recognized…because all those problems are nothing but devises to be recognized…. That is one of the ways of the ego: ego always wants to declare to the world, "Look, I am here". It wants its presence felt. Those who keep silent, those who keep hidden, those who are here and whose presence is not felt will be benefited the most by me."
( At The Feet Of The Master P 153-154)

Now see the cunningness of the man 'Whosoever'—the Inner Circle had advised him that there should not be ten-days Osho Meditation Camps rather there should be of three days meditation camps as had been going on since July, 1989 after the guidance of Osho. But he interpreted it that the Inner Circle says that a person should not meditate more than three days. This is nothing but lack of intelligence. This he has imagined in the same way as he has imagined that he has disappeared and become enlightened. 'Ho jaaye'!

There is spiritual aspect also behind the decision of Osho to advise Inner Circle for arranging three-day meditation camps instead of ten days meditation camps, but we leave it to Mr. Whosoever and his followers to speculate why. Will he accept Osho's guidance that Vipassana meditation should not be practiced for more than two hours a day and that too early in the morning? Should we show him Osho speaking the same? We can if he don't know and want evidence. The same may be one of the reasons for reducing Osho Meditation Camps' period from ten days to three days.

At page 91 of the book he says, "And Osho wants that each of His disciple to become guru (enlightened master), each one of His disciple to become Buddha … (etc.)

Enlightenment is realized in the state of egolessness. Therefore an enlightened master cannot provoke anybody for the nourishment of his ego. The desire to become a guru will not let one to come out of the trap of ego. Osho will never put any of His disciples to fall in such trap. It is correct that Osho wants each of His disciples to become masters. But here he means masters of themselves, not the masters of others or leaders. Moreover it may be easy to be enlightened in the way Mr. Whosoever thinks he has become enlightened. But it is not so easy to become really enlightened. The journey is said to be very arduous, as arduous as to 'relax totally'.

"It is certain that in my earlier teachings to you, enlightenment appeared to be much easier. It had to, because I did not want you to freak out. Now I can trust that even if I say the truth you are not going to escape. Enlightenment is not easy. But how to persuade people? They are so much engaged in futile things, and if you give them a very difficult idea, which becomes prohibitive, they simply say, "We will see. Perhaps in some life some time – and what is the hurry? Eternity is available."

"Here, if I say to you enlightenment is very difficult; you will put it down at the very bottom of your life. I have to say to people that it is very easy, it is easier than anything else in the world, it is the easiest thing. And once you have become interested in enlightenment then, slowly, slowly, I can tell you, "Don't be stupid." But I will say it only when the time is ripe."
Osho Upanishad # 30)

IN VIEW OF OSHO'S TERMS, 'WHOSOEVER' IS NOT ENLIGHTENED, HE MUST HAVE HELLUCINATED OR DREAMED OF HIS ENLIGHTENMENT

MANY OSHO SANNYASINS HAVE EXPERIENCED TRUE ENLIGHTENMENT OR SAMADHI. MOST OF THEM PASSED AWAY WITH ENLIGHTENMENT. FEW WHO SURVIVED REMAINED SILENT. FOR THE LAST FEW YEARS MANY OF OSHO'S SANNYASINS HAVE BEEN CLAIMING TO HAVE EXPERIENCED ENLIGHTENMENT. BUT IN THEIR ORDINARY LIFE THEY HAVE BEEN AS UNCONSCIOUS AS ANY OTHER PERSON. 'WHOSOEVER' ALSO IS ONE OF THE CLAIMANTS OF SUCH ENLIGHTENMENT. THIS IS GOOD NEWS, BUT APEARS TO BE TOTALLY FALSE.

OSHO HAS REVEALED A SECRET ABOUT THE HAPPENING OF ENLIGHTENMENT WHICH WAS KNOWINGLY KEPT TOP SECRET FOR THOUSANDS OF YEARS. IN HIS DISCOURSE DATED 15-05-1986 HE REVEALED THAT ENLIGHTENMENT OR SAMADHI GIVES SUCH A DEEP SHOCK TO THE PSYCHO-SOMATIC ORGANISM THAT 90 OUT OF HUNDRED PERSONS DIE INSTANTLY. OUT OF BALANCE 10, 9 LOSE CONTROL OVER THEIR BRAIN AND CANNOT DIRECTLY HELP OTHERS FOR ENLIGHTENMENT. THEY, AT THE MOST BECOME RELIGIOUS TEACHERS. THESE 10 PERSONS WHO SURVIVE ARE THOSE WHO HAD BEEN HIGHLY ADVENTUROUS IN THEIR LIFE. ONE PERSON OUT OF HUNDRED WHO COULD USE HIS BRAIN IS THE PERSON WHO HAS USED AT LEAST 33% OF THE CAPACITY OF HIS BRAIN IN HIS LIFE WHICH IS RARE. ONLY SUCH PERSON CAN BECOME MASTER (GURU) AND HELP OTHERS. THE MOST INTELLIGENT PERSON OF THE WORLD I.E. EINSTEIN HAD USED ONLY 15% OF HIS BRAIN.

IN VIEW OF OSHO'S ABOVE DECLARATION, IF 'WHOSOEVER HAS REALLY PASSED THROUH THE EXPERIENCE OF SAMADHI OR ENLIGHTENMENT, HE SHOULD HAVE BEEN DIED INSTANTLY ON THE DAY OF HIS SO CALLED ENLIGHTENMENT BECAUSE HE WAS NOT KNOWN TO BE VERY ADVENTUROUS IN HIS LIFE. THERE IS NO QUESTION OF HIS BEING MASTER OR GURU, BECAUSE HE HAS HARDLY USED 5% OF HIS BRAIN. IN HIS LIFE THERE IS NOTHING WHICH CAN SUPPORT THAT HE MAY HAVE USED AT LEAST 33% OF THE SAME. THUS HE IS NOT EVEN ENLIGHTENED WHAT TO SPEAK OF HIM BEING A MASTER(GURU).

IN THIS CONNECTION WE ARE REPRODUCING VERY IMPORTANT EXTRACT OF OSHO'S DISCOURSE FOR READERS' READY REFERENCE. IF OSHO IS RIGHT, THESE MERCHANTS OF MERCHANTS OF ENLIGHTENMENT ARE ALL PRETENDERS. THEY ARE EXPLOITNG THE INNOCENT AND IGNORANT PEOPLE. IN CASE THEY CLAIM THAT WHAT OSHO HAS SAID IS NOT CORRECT, THEN THEY HAVE NO RIGHT TO CALL THEMSELVES OSHO SANNYASINS. THEY SHOULD STOP TO USE THE NAME OSHO, HIS DISCOURSES AND PHOTOS. OSHO HAS TOTALLY EXPOSED THEM IN THIS DISCOURSE.

OSHO SPEAKS:

Most of the people who become enlightened die instantly. They simply cannot breathe anymore. There is no reason why they should breathe. The experience is so big that the heart stops. They have never seen anything like it, it is so unknown. It takes their breath away -- literally.

Very few people survive enlightenment, and the reason why these people survive is strange: people who have been adventurous, people who have enjoyed taking risks, who have lived like a tightrope walker, whose lives have been on a razor's edge, may survive. The shock will be there, but they are accustomed to smaller shocks. They have never had such a big shock, but smaller shocks have prepared them to accept even this enormous phenomenon. They still continue to breathe; their heart still continues to beat. But still the body suffers in many ways because something has happened that the body cannot understand.

So it is a very rare phenomenon: first to be enlightened, then to survive enlightenment, then to save your brain so that you can be a master. And that depends on whether you exercised your brain before enlightenment to at least one-third of its potential. Less than that won't do.

In view of above, it is arduous to become an enlightened master, and there is no shortcut. However, it is possible and easy to become a false enlightened master (guru) in the sense 'Whosoever' uses the word 'guru'. Osho tells a story for those who Have the desire to be gurus:-

"In every master's life there are bound to be Judases. It seems to be the law of nature that the people who come to a master don't come with the same motivation. A few come to seek the truth, a few come to learn how to be a master."

"In the life of Basho, one of the great mystics of Japan, there is a beautiful incident. He was sitting with his disciples and a man came and he said, "I also want to join." Basho said, "There is no barrier; the doors are open, you can join. But let me tell you: disciplehood is an arduous thing. Are you ready for it, or is it just curiosity? If it is just curiosity then don't waste your time, because soon you will have to leave. If it is a sincere search that you are ready to stake everything – life included – only then can you be a disciple."

The man said,"I am not prepared. I never thought that to be a disciple costs so much." And then he said, "Then what about the master? – I can become the master. If it is easier, then I can drop the idea of being a disciple; I can become the master."

Basho said, "We will not prevent you from being a master, but unless one has passed through the arduous path of disciplehood, one cannot be a master – although it is very easy. If there was some back door, I would have allowed you in. But there is no back door; you will have to come through the right channel of being a disciple."The man said, "Then I will think it over, and I will come again," and he never came again.

"A few people simply come to the masters because they see a certain dimension of fulfillment for their ego, their ambition. To them, it is the same: to have power, prestige, respectability, richness, or to be a great master with thousands of disciples. They have no desire to know the truth, no search for knowing oneself. To them, to be a master is just like any other ambitious project of the world – to be a rich man, to be a politician, to be a prime minister, to be a governor. And you cannot prevent them, because sometimes when they come and they try to understand, they change."
(The Osho Upanishad # 39)

Osho reminded us many times that after Him there is every possibility that some sannyasins will become our leaders and gurus and exploit us. This has been the case with every enlightened master without exception. That He is destroying all that, on the basis of which gurudom may enter into His vision. He even declared that He is not a guru or master and has no disciples but friends and destroyed the whole edifice of guru-disciple relationship saying that such relationship created dependence and hierarchy which has lead to exploitation. The hierarchy also creates inferiority and superiority complexes which hinders the progress of meditation. Because 'whosoever' himself has become a guru, therefore, in his support he is misquoting and misinterpreting that Osho wanted each of His sannyasins to become gurus. We remind him that for guru-disciple relationship, 'religion' is needed but Osho has not founded any religion. His vision is a scientific inner search.

"A master-disciple relationship means the disciple can depend on the master, and the master has a certain responsibility. I dropped that responsibility yesterday. Now I am no longer responsible for anybody. You have to be responsible for yourself. You cannot depend on me. I am not your savior, I am not your leader. Now you have to become your own savior."

"Now you are to be more mature. A disciple can remain retarded, but a friend cannot be forgiven if he remains retarded. So every day I will be giving you chances. It is an effort to sharpen your intelligence, to give you integrity, individuality, to give you freedom from everything, to give you the beauty of your aloneness."

"Telling you that it is up to you to wear malas or not, it is up to you to be in red clothes or not, is not out of any hurt feeling in me. Nobody can hurt me – that is impossible, because in the first place I never expect anything from anybody. So disappointment is impossible."

"I have said these things because I love you, and I want you to be responsible and to take decisions on your own so that no fascist kind of regime again fetters you and destroys you. I cannot be with you always. One day I will have to leave my body, and then there will be every possibility of people exploiting you, becoming your leaders."

"I cannot see you dependent. I cannot see you being harassed, tortured, ordered, made to obey – no. Hence, I say to you: My way of life is not a religion. It is certainly a kind of religiousness. To be religious without being attached to any religion is the most beautiful experience of life. Then religiousness is a quality, not a faith." "Slowly slowly, I am taking away all excuses for your faith. I have taken away God, I have taken away paradise. I have taken away the fear of hell, taken away the greed for heaven. And I don't want anybody after me to undo what I have done."

"It all depends on you.
My guards, be on alert!"

(From Bondage to Freedom # 15)

"The poison of ambition is everywhere. It will be more in those who will be near to the Master, very near. Because they have the hope that they are so near to the Master to sit on his place when he is dead."

"This is the disease of ambition; it will always go on giving birth to the Judas until the earth is not cleared from ambition. On that day no Judas will be born because there will be no need too. You need not to be a heir of any Jesus. You yourself can awaken the god in you."

"But you start from yourself. Don't care whether the world will change or not. There are many such people who always caring about the world whether it will change or not. But this they forget altogether forget what is their intention about themselves. First think to change yourself."
"Your change will begin change in the world."
(Komplen Phir Phoot Aein )

"There is no spiritual meaning to a guru-disciple relationship. Actually, all relationships are about power, they are all relationships of power politics. ……"

"These relationships between the master and the disciple, the wife and the husband are perversions. …The same is the case with the guru and the guru and the disciple. The guru oppresses the disciple, and the later waits for him to die so that he may become the guru."

"So it is difficult to find a guru whose disciples do not rebel against him or become his enemies. The chief disciple is bound to be the enemy of the guru. It is almost inevitable, because the pressure of power is always met with rebellion. Spirituality has nothing to do with it. So one must be careful to choose the chief disciple."

"What is this relationship between a guru and a disciple? One is a claimant: "I know, you do not know. You are ignorant, I am wise. The ignorant must bow to the wise."But what sort of wise man is he who says, " You must bow in reverence" ? He is the most ignorant person."

"So this claim and this authority kill the sense of quest and inquiry in others. Authority cannot exist without suppression, because he who wields authority is always afraid of your finding out the truth. Then what would become of his power? So he will stop you from finding out. He will gather followers and disciples around him, and among the disciples there will also be a hierarchy of chief disciples and lesser disciples. This is again a political web and it has nothing to do with spirituality."

"All relationships are binding, whether they be of husband and wife, father and son, or guru and disciple. Where there is relationship, there is slavery. So the spiritual seeker has not to form relationships……But the irony lies in the fact that he renounces and drops out of husband-wife, father-son relationships to form a new guru-disciple relationship. This is very dangerous"

(In Search Of The Miraculous # 14)

It is because of wrong interpretation of Osho's teachings that many of Osho's long time sannyasins and meditation camp conductors tried to deceive others that they have become enlightened and doing the same what Osho had been doing. This had been the case with some of western Osho sannyasins also:-

"So it is a good chance for a few people – there are two, three persons I have been told about who have become enlightened – knowing that I cannot come into Germany. The Indian government is being pressured by the American government that no sannyasins should be allowed to reach to me."

"So it is a good opportunity for these people: they have become enlightened, they are gathering followers.

"And Gunakar is right, that it is one of the greatest crimes to claim enlightenment when you are not – because this is the greatest deception that you can give to humanity. It is the ugliest phenomenon."

"You can be a con man, cheat people out of their money, their belongings, their houses, their wives, their husbands, anything; that is immaterial, that does not matter much. But a con man as far as enlightenment is concerned is cheating you about your consciousness, about your very being. He is doing some kind of violence, which is invisible but which is the worst that can be done by any criminal."

"All those three therapists will come back, because soon they will realize that they are doing something which is not only harming others but is harming their own growth. If you are not enlightened and you claim that you are, then you stop progressing towards enlightenment. You are already enlightened; what is the need?"

"All kinds of cheats, thieves can be forgiven, but the people who are playing with your consciousness, with your being, cannot be forgiven."
